The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 3 titled “A Kind Person” introduces a new character, Subaru Hoshina, who is the best friend of Kaoruko Waguri. The episode has been released on Netflix Japan. However, on Netflix Asia, the episode will be released on July 26. This episode adapts Chapters 3 and 4 from the manga. The pacing has improved as the previous two episodes adapted only one chapter each.

Rintaro and Shohei’s Midterm Trouble
Rintaro and Shohei are exhausted in class because of the heat. They walk over to the staff room just to sit in the air conditioning. While heading there, they talk about the sports festival.
But once they arrive, their homeroom teacher, Tsukada, tells them that the students who fail the upcoming midterms can’t take part in the Sports Festival. They need to take makeup exams instead. This makes both Rintaro and Shohei nervous.
Both of them are terrible at studying. They try asking Saku and Ayato for help. Saku turns them down right away.
He says he already tried helping Shohei before, and it did not go well. Shohei says they will just do it alone then.
Rintaro Asks Waguri for Help
While in class, Rintaro gets a text from his mom about a bakery sale. She wants him to tell Waguri. He messages her, but she replies, saying she is too busy this month.
Later, Rintaro and Shohei try to study at the library, but the questions are too hard. Rintaro says maybe Shohei should ask Saku again. Shohei then leaves to ask Saku for help again while Rintaro stays in the library. However, he also leaves, gives up his seat to some younger students.
In the library, he sees Waguri studying with another student from Kikyo. He hears that Waguri always ranks first at Kikyo. That bothers him because he knows he is one of the lowest ranked in Chidori.
He goes outside and lies on a bench. Waguri shows up suddenly. She tells him she is saving money and has a part-time job, so she can’t visit the bakery. He is surprised to hear she is on a scholarship. He asks if she can tutor him. She says yes.
Subaru Hoshina Appears
Waguri reveals that she is waiting for her, and finally, she shows up, Subaru Hoshina. She has silver hair and is close to Kaoruko. She walks up and pulls Kaoruko away, telling her not to hang out with Rintaro.
Rintaro’s friends arrive too. Shohei does not recognize Kaoruko at first, but eventually does and apologizes for what happened at the gate. Subaru does not apologize for her behaviour towards Rintaro. Then Saku mocks her hair, which upsets her even more.
Subaru walks away with Kaoruko. On their way back, she asks why Kaoruko is spending time with someone from Chidori. Kaoruko just says,
He is a kind person.

Later that night, Kaoruko calls Rintaro to plan the study session. He tells her to talk to him like she does with her friends, and she should not be formal with him. Rintaro starts to wonder what Waguri’s reaction would be right now. Then we see Waguri at home, blushing after hanging up the call.
The episode ends with Subaru sitting alone. She looks at a photo of her and Kaoruko from when they were kids. She seems sad.

Animation was consistent again this week. Backgrounds looked soft, and the colors matched the tone.
Character movements were clean, and all the expressions felt natural. Subaru’s body language and eye detail stood out. Everything looked polished without overdoing it.
