The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 2 is now out in Japan on Netflix. For most fans in Asia, the episode will release on July 19th.

But fans in the US and UK still have to wait until September 14. The release pattern is so annoying for everyone outside Japan who loves this series.

This episode was directed by Haruka Tsuzuki. The animation and pacing still feel the same as Episode 1. CloverWorks continues to bring out the slice-of-life and romance tone well.

The colors, facial expressions, and mood all match the manga. But if they want to adapt the first 40 chapters in one cour to conclude it at the perfect spot, they need to speed up the pacing a bit.

What Happened in The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 2?

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 2 starts right where the last one ended. Rintaro looks out the school window and sees that Kaoruko is from Kikyo Academy.

Chidori and Kikyo don’t get along. He assumes she will stop coming to the bakery. In his mind, it is better if they do not talk anymore.

Later, Waguri waits for him outside the Chidori school gate. It causes a scene. Shohei Usami, Rintaro’s friend, confronts her and asks what a Kikyo student is doing at Chidori.

Rintaro arrives just in time, but Kaoruko does not say she was waiting for him. Her friends arrive and pull her away, saying things like she will catch their stupidity if she stays there. They also mention a new character who will show up soon, Subaru Hoshina.

Rintaro’s Mother Changes His Mind

At home, Rintaro tells his mom everything. She listens and then gives him a reality check.

She reminds him how he hates being judged by his face, but now he is doing the same to Kaoruko because of her school.

You hate it when people judge you, but now you’re the one saying ‘Kikyo this, Kikyo that. Even after she found out you are from Chidori, did she ever change her attitude even once?

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 2 Review

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 2 keeps the story grounded and focused on emotions mostly.

The animation is clean and stable. CloverWorks uses soft background colors, small movements, and really good and accurate facial expressions to keep the tone light and emotional.

It feels exactly like a slice-of-life romance should. Every character movement feels real, and the timing of reactions is handled well.

The episode did not end on a major cliffhanger, but the curtains are now lifted, confirming that Rintaro is no longer conflicted.
