Blue Lock Chapter 298 titled Alone, Together was just released, concluding the 9th match of the Neo Egoist League between FC Barcha and Manshine City. I was expecting a comeback from Nagi, but that did not happen. Instead, his ranking dropped even further. In the Round 4 rankings, he was at #11, but after his underwhelming performance, he dropped to #24 since he failed to score in the last match.

The Neo Egoist League ranks players using the Blue Lock Auction, where football clubs bid based on their performance. The top 23 players get selected for Japan’s U-20 team for the World Cup. Since Nagi is at #24, he is officially disqualified unless someone drops out or gets injured.
Like the recent chapters, Blue Lock Chapter 298 had two main parts: first, the flashback wrapping up the match, and second, the real-time ranking updates. Bachira held onto his #5 spot even after scoring two goals, though his bid improved from 79M to 120M. Chigiri climbed to #6 after his last match, while Reo Mikage is now at #7.

Nagi’s Evolution Ends in Disappointment in Blue Lock Chapter 298
Blue Lock Chapter 298 starts with Nagi claiming he does not need Reo and can score goals on his own. He tells Reo not to pass to him, believing this is his moment to evolve. Reo tries to convince him that they still need each other, but Nagi explains Reo has secured his ranking after scoring the second goal.

With the game tied at 2-2, Nagi steps up, determined to show his new self. When Bachira receives a pass, Nagi jumps higher, intercepts it, and starts an attack. He passes to Agi, who gives it to Chigiri, and then Chigiri returns the ball to Nagi, Manshine City was controlling the momentum of the game. It was all setup for Nagi’s goal.
Just as he is about to take the shot, Otoya appears, blocking his path. Now, instead of two defenders, three players surround Nagi. His shooting angle is cut off, and he hesitates. At that moment, Reo appears on his left and shouts his name. Without thinking, Nagi instinctively passes to Reo.
But before Reo can take the ball, Bachira intercepts it and turns the game around. The next scene shows Bachira scoring the final goal, securing FC Barcha’s victory. In the same panel, the updated rankings are revealed.

At the end of the chapter, we see that Nagi is now ranked #24, officially knocking him out of the Japan U-20 team. Even Isagi is shocked, since he did not expect Nagi to be disqualified. The final panel shows the author’s note:
A genius, surprisingly disqualified…! Even the Demon King, Isagi, is shocked by the unexpected final ranking!!
Blue Lock Chapter 299 will be released on 15th April 2025 since there is a break next week. The title of the upcoming chapter will be “Blue Tears”.
