Lord of Mysteries Episode 5 combines both the Alfalfa and Trissy events to speed things up. But in the novel, they are separate events. Tris disappears first, and later Trissy is introduced in a different case.

Trissy and Tris are the same person. She was the so called hero of the Alfalfa case, but the truth is she caused it. Then she changed her gender to advance through the Demoness Sect’s path. Her transformation is directly tied to the strange rules of the Demoness Sect.
Lord of Mysteries Episode 5 Tris and the Alfalfa Incident Explained
Before she became Trissy, she was known as Tris, as I mentioned above, someone who was seen as a survivor of a tragic event at sea. A ship named Alfalfa was found where most people onboard had attacked each other in a sudden, violent breakdown. Tris was seen as a hero who helped others escape.
But later Klein finds out through divination that Tris actually caused the entire massacre. He was a Sequence 8 Instigator and used his powers to create conflict and panic among the passengers. He did it all to help digest his potion.
Once the Nighthawks start figuring out what happened, they begin searching for Tris. But he completely disappears.
More Deaths in Tingen
Not long after that, people in Tingen who are already sick or close to death start dying faster than expected. Leonard thinks someone is draining their life force to use it for a ritual.
A more accurate description would be, their ‘life force’ had been shortened by some supernatural factor. It was stolen. And life force is the best material when it comes to summoning evil gods and devils or conducting terrifying curses.

The Nighthawks follow this case and end up in a hidden mansion. There, they face a female Beyonder who escapes using stealth and mirror powers. Dunn says she is likely Sequence 7. They stop the ritual but don’t catch the person behind it. This ritual was meant to kill all the survivors from the Alfalfa case.
Tris Became Trissy Revealed
Later, Klein performs a ritual using a broken mirror and sees the face of a woman. He realizes he has seen her before, when they were looking into Tris.
Leonard shares a theory that the woman is not working with Tris. She is Tris. And he is right.
Tris became Trissy after advancing to Sequence 7 in the Demoness path. In this pathway, to move from Instigator to Witch, a man must transform into a woman. It is part of the process, not a choice. So while the Nighthawks were looking for a man, Tris had already changed.
What is the Demoness Sect?
The Demoness Sect is one of the oldest and most secretive groups in Lord of Mysteries. They follow the Primordial Demoness and gain power through chaos and suffering.
Their pathway is:
- Sequence 9: Assassin – improves speed and stealth
- Sequence 8: Instigator – triggers conflict and emotion in others
- Sequence 7: Witch – uses illusions, curses, dreams, and mirror-based skills
To become a Witch, any male Beyonder has to go through full gender change. That is why all higher members of the Demoness Sect are women. In the novel, we see Tris receive the Witch potion from his superior, drink it, and fully become Trissy.
What Can Trissy Do?
As a Sequence 7 Witch, Trissy has all her previous powers and more:
- She can still incite emotions and fights
- She uses dream and illusion magic
- She can use mirrors to escape or move
- She tries to kill the last Alfalfa survivors with a ritual
During the mansion fight, she manages to escape and is then seen traveling in a train, but her identity is then revealed. And Lord of Mysteries Episode 5 ended on a cliffhanger.
