This article contains spoilers from the latest Blue Box Chapter 199.
Blue Box Chapter 199 titled “Show Some Understanding” officially starts the Kyoto school trip. After the Second Year Cultural Festival arc, the manga focused mostly on Taiki and Chinatsu. Side characters like Kyo, Ayame, Haruto, and Hina were pushed to the background. Ayame started dating Shota, and Kyo slowly distanced himself. In the last chapter, we finally saw movement for some side characters, especially Haruto and Hina.

Hina and Haruto’s Progress
In Blue Box Chapter 198, Haruto ignores Hina and Nina. Nina follows him and says he should be clear about his feelings. Haruto says he was never trying to mislead Hina, but he is being careful because someone once said his actions lack timing. Nina tells him that if he does not take a step forward, he will leave no impression. Later, she tells Hina that Haruto might be worth her time, and Hina agrees. In Chapter 199, there is a short scene where Haruto asks Hina to bring him a good luck charm from Kyoto. He says it is for his match against Taiki. Nothing major happens, but the chapter does build up the hype around them.
Kyo Might Be Back in Focus
Kyo was sidelined since Chapter 166, when Ayame started dating Shota. He never confessed and instead decided to keep his distance. In Chapter 167, there was a fake-out confession from Kyo to Ayame in the nurse’s office, but it turned out to be a dream. Since then, he was barely in the story. But now, with Chinatsu and Haruto not part of the Kyoto trip, it opens the way for Kyo, Ayame, and Shota to take center stage again.
In this chapter, Kyo is talking to some girls in his class when Taiki joins in. Taiki asks what that was about, and Kyo reveals that their group is assigned to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and the report is due in three days.

Ayame’s Situation and Shota’s Insecurities
Later in the chapter, we see Ayame helping with her club duties. A player injures his knee while sliding for a shot, and Ayame goes to get the sewing kit. On the way, she meets her ex-boyfriend, who makes fun of her for still taking the manager role seriously. He also hints that Ayame has gotten too serious in love. She replies that she has changed.
Then she runs into one of Shota’s friends. He says Shota is trying hard in the relationship, and even though he does not say it out loud, he feels insecure seeing Ayame surrounded by boys in the club. He suggests Ayame should also show some understanding. After that, Ayame throws the sewing kit at the player and tells him to fix his pants himself.
She later meets Taiki after refilling the water cooler and asks when he realized he liked Chinatsu. Taiki says it was four years ago, during his second year of junior high. Ayame reflects that it has been only four months since she started dating Shota, but he has been supportive and does not force his opinions on her. She says she has changed and wants to make this relationship work. Even though it seems like Ayame and Shota might grow closer, it is possible things will shift during the Kyoto trip.
Chinatsu’s New Neighbor
Chinatsu is not part of the school trip. She is cooking and texting Taiki. While watching TV, she hears the doorbell. A neighbor brings her a box of Ukkokei ramen and introduces themselves. Not much is revealed, but it seems this new neighbor might be a guy. It feels like Kouji Miura is setting up a misunderstanding between Taiki and Chinatsu using this new character, it is totally my assumption, though.

Kyoto Trip Begins in Blue Box Chapter 199
In the last scene, Taiki and his classmates arrive at the station for their two-night, three-day trip to Kyoto. This officially starts the Kyoto Trip arc. With Chinatsu and Haruto staying behind, the spotlight may now be on Kyo, Ayame, and Shota. This could be a chance for Kyo to finally get some closure or development.
Blue Box Chapter 199 Review
Blue Box Chapter 199 works well as a setup chapter. It brings back focus on the side characters while slowly moving the story toward the Kyoto trip. The pacing feels balanced, and each character’s moment gets enough space without rushing. Kouji Miura uses this chapter to set up future developments, especially with Hina and Haruto, and the shift in Ayame’s relationship with Shota. Kyo is back in the frame, but he still does not get the attention he deserves, and even the way he is drawn feels off. The new neighbor scene with Chinatsu also adds some curiosity that might lead to misunderstandings later. Overall, it was a fun read that positions everything for the upcoming trip.
