Blue Lock Chapter 299 is finally out after a short break, and sadly, things don’t look good for Nagi. After the final rankings were revealed last chapter, it was confirmed that Nagi was ranked #24, just one spot away from making it into the top 23 who will go on to represent Japan in the U-20 World Cup. This chapter was all about the aftermath of that reveal.

The chapter is titled “Blue Tears” and it starts by showing the final moments of the Neo Egoist League. Spain wins, and with that, the final rankings are locked. Nagi ends up ranked 24th, confirming he just missed the cut. Nanase gets the 23rd spot, and even he can’t believe he made it. Raichi and Zantetsu celebrate that they got in, but Nagi is now officially out. Ego announces that the salary auction is done and that the players who did not make the top 23 are no longer needed in Blue Lock. He just says it straight up, LOCK OFF.
After that, Isagi tries to speak up for Nagi. He asks Ego why a genius like Nagi did not make it, but Ego just shuts him down. Reo tries too, and starts pleading for a reevaluation of Nagi’s rank and salary. He even admits that while Nagi is not always consistent, he is still someone who has talent the world knows. But Ego doesn’t care. He says this is not a place for feelings, it is a lab to create the world’s best striker, and Nagi just does not belong anymore.
Ego explains that Nagi had already reached his dream when he beat Isagi, and after that, his fire died. He got satisfied and never grew again. Ego even says that Nagi only won by chance and that Isagi has already surpassed him.

Then he says Reo is just wasting his time by believing in someone whose talent is already fading, calling Nagi a dead flower that won’t bloom again.
Reo starts tearing up and that’s where the chapter title “Blue Tears” comes in. The chapter ends with Nagi quietly calling Reo’s name, and the narrator saying:
