July 2025 is looking good for anime. We got some big returns and new adaptions finally releasing. Spring 2025 had ups and downs.

The Beginning After the End was hyped up all year. Source material has tons of fans, but A-Cat Studio completely botched it. They were not equipped for this kind of project. Alot of manhwa fans are disappointed by the adaption and rightfully so.

Not everything sucked though. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is still going pretty good, with Bones Film handling it well. WIND Breaker Season 2 is decent, only two episodes remaining, WITCH WATCH is pretty good as well, To Be Hero X worked out fine. All these are wrapping up soon, though.

CloverWorks is doing most of the summer’s major anime. They know what they are doing, usually. Wind Breaker Season 2 and Black Butler – Emerald Witch Arc from spring turned out to be really good, so expectations are really high from them in July as well

Dandadan Season 2 Will Fully Adapt the Evil Eye Arc

This is the big one everyone’s waiting for. First season got Anime of the Year at the 2024 Abema Awards, and the OP won Best Anime Song at the Crunchyroll Awards 2025.

The first season did three manga arcs, plus half of the fourth. Season 2 is called “Evil Eye” and picks up where we left off. It will finish the Cursed House Arc, then move into the Evil Eye Arc. Kaiju Arc might happen, too, but that depends on pacing.

Science SARU is back on animation duty. Same team that did season 1, so quality should be consistent.

Dandadan Season 2 will be released on July 3, 2025, on Netflix and Crunchyroll.

There’s a compilation movie too, “DanDaDan: Evil Eye” with the first three episodes. Already out in theaters. Japan got it on May 30, the US on June 6, and Europe on June 7. They did this same thing with season 1’s “First Encounter” movie.

Kaiju No 8 Season 2 Will Fully Adapt Kaiju Weapon Arc

Kaiju No 8 aired in Spring 2024 and quickly became one of the most popular series from that season. It is animated by Production I.G.. The manga itself is almost done now, with Chapter 129 expected to be the final chapter.

The first season adapted the first four arcs from the manga. At the end of season 1, Kafka Hibino revealed to the Defense Force that he is actually Kaiju No 8. He did this to protect the Third Division from the final attack of a Kaiju. After that, he was captured and locked up so the Defense Force could decide how to handle him.

Instead of killing him, Director General Isao Shinomiya chose a different route. He personally fought Kafka and decided to keep him alive. The upcoming season will adapt the Weapon Arc completely, as well as the Compatible User Arc and Cataclysms Arc. The first season was one cour, so this one will likely be the same length.

Kaiju No 8 Season 2 will be released on July 19 on Netflix and Crunchyroll. The official Twitter account describes the story of season 2 as:

Kafka must face new challenges, new Kaiju, and… a new Captain?!

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Anime Arrives on Netflix in July

If you are into romance and slice of life anime, then The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity is one to watch this summer. It was announced not too long ago, and now Netflix has officially confirmed that they hold the global streaming rights for it. Just like Blue Box and Sakamoto Days, the release will follow the same schedule, in Japan it will air first, and the global release will be a week later.

The good thing is, CloverWorks is handling the adaptation. So the animation quality is not going to be a problem. They are already known for adapting romance and slice of life anime really well, titles like Horimiya, My Dress-Up Darling, and a lot of others were done by them and turned out great.

Even though global fans will get episodes with a delay, Netflix seems to be slowly entering this space properly by picking up big titles like this. For fans of Blue Box, this anime is probably going to give similar vibes. Netflix describes the story of the anime as:

Chidori student Rintaro Tsumugi finds himself feeling comfortable around a girl named Kaoruko who treats his intimidating appearance without prejudice… until he discovers that she comes from Kikyo — a school which loathes his.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Confirmed to Air on July 6

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 finally has a release date. The season was announced after season 1 ended back in 2022, and after a long wait, it has been confirmed to start airing on July 6, 2025, through Crunchyroll.

The first season adapted the first five arcs from the manga and covered Marin and Wakana’s early bond, ending on a beautiful note with the summer festival episode. Marin almost drowned in that scene, but Wakana saved her, and later we got that phone call moment where Marin told him she liked him, but Gojo was already asleep by then.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Key Visual

My Dress Up Darling Season 2 will begin with the Shizuku Kuroe, Part 2 Arc. The manga has officially ended at chapter 115 (released on March 21, 2025). However, there is plenty of content left to adapt in the anime.

The studio handling this is CloverWorks, same as season 1, so the animation quality is not going to disappoint, as we have seen in the promotional video as well. Crunchyroll describes the story of season 2 as:

When Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo met, they grew close over their love for cosplay. Through interacting with classmates and making new cosplay friends, Marin and Wakana’s world keeps growing. New developments arise as Marin’s love for Wakana continues to be filled with endless excitement. In their ever-expanding world, Marin and Wakana’s story of cosplay and thrills continues!

Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus Anime Confirmed for July 6 Release

Rascal Does Not Dream is finally coming back with a new season, and it is officially titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus. The new season will start airing on July 6, 2025, through Crunchyroll.

This series is one of the most unique romance anime in recent years, blending supernatural and psychological elements with proper character development. It is not a typical school rom-com like the other I discussed earlier, which are also releasing in July 2025. The series has always had some complex storylines, especially because it uses a lot of science-related stuff and time-based elements to explain what is happening to each character.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus Key Visual

Even though this new release is being called season 2, there are actually three movies that take place between season 1 and this new one. Season 1 covered volumes 1 to 5 of the light novel, while the movies covered volumes in between. Now, the College Student Arc is going to be adapted. Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus Season 2 will cover Volumes 10 to 13.

The animation is once again handled by CloverWorks, the same studio that did the previous entries, so the visuals and tone will stay consistent. Yen Press describes the story as:

Sakuta thought he’d already accomplished step one: Find Touko Kirishima. The next step was convincing her to help protect Mai, but that proved easier said than done. In the process, however, he makes a confusing discovery: There are multiple Touko Kirishimas! The Touko he knows may not actually be the person he’s looking for! With clues from his friends’ prophetic dreams, he gets closer to figuring out exactly what danger awaits Mai, but he’ll have to sort through the fake Kirishimas and determine who’s the real deal before it’s too late…

Grand Blue Season 2 Confirmed, Airing Starts July 7

After a long wait, Grand Blue is finally returning with season 2. It is officially confirmed to start airing on July 7, 2025. The first season aired in 2018 and is still known as one of the best comedy anime of all time. Not many anime reach this level of comedy, and if any anime comes close, it is probably just Prison School.

Grand Blue Season 2 Key Visual

The studio Zero-G will be doing the animation again, same as season 1. The first season adapted around 21 chapters from the manga. Since the manga now has 103 chapters released, there is a lot more story left to adapt. The new season will likely continue right from where season 1 ended.

Even though Grand Blue is not talked about as much these days, it is still one of the best comedy anime. It is not action or drama-focused, but if you are looking for pure humor with college life and diving club chaos, it is a must-watch. Crunchyroll describes the story as:

After graduating from an all-boys’ high school, Iori Kitahara moves away from home to go to college in a seaside town. He’s eager to start a new chapter in his life–one filled with dreams of reinventing himself, meeting beautiful girls, and reveling in his youth. But when his new abode is his uncle’s dive shop, Iori’s college debut doesn’t turn out as glamorously as he planned! Can Iori keep himself afloat, or will the booze-fueled antics of his university’s diving club wash him away?

Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4 Will Adapt Hawaiians Arc

Rent-a-Girlfriend is returning again with season 4, and the release date is officially confirmed for July 5, 2025. The anime started back in 2020. Season 3 aired in July 2023, and now the next one is ready. Just like the previous seasons, TMS Entertainment will handle the animation. Also, Kazuomi Koga, who directed seasons 1 and 2, is returning for this season.

Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4 Character Visual of Ruka Chan

This anime has always been a mix of comedy and serious emotional moments as well. One episode might be funny, and the next one could get unexpectedly heavy. In season 3, Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship did progress, especially after Chizuru broke down emotionally and started depending on Kazuya more than before. She has gone through alot and Kazuya wants to be there for her.

So far, the manga has 379 chapters and 40 volumes out. There’s still a lot of story to adapt. Season 4 is confirmed to cover the Hawaiians Arc, and like past seasons, it will stream on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll describes the fourth season as:

Kazuya’s ready to confess with the lush paradise of Hawaii as a backdrop. But renting Chizuru for the dream trip turns into a war zone of love due to Ruka’s aggressive advances and Mami’s scheming. Despite the chaos, this is Kazuya’s moment to bare his heart. Will his words reach Chizuru? And if they do, what will she even say?
