The Evil Eye is the main threat introduced in Dandadan Season 2 Episode 2 during the Cursed House arc. At first, it seems like just a regular evil spirit haunting the house, but its actual identity and reason for targeting Jiji is much more complex.
What is the Evil Eye?
The Evil Eye is a cursed yokai that can control people’s minds and force them to end their own lives. Turbo Granny explains that its gaze works like a spiritual curse. Anyone who comes under it loses all will to live. It is the same power that cancels out the Mongolian Death Worm’s psychic waves, which is how it saves Momo and Okarun during the Dandadan Season 2 Episode 2.
But the spirit did not start out evil. It was once a child who was sacrificed by the Kito Family a long time ago to the same worm that Jiji’s house is built over. That spirit kept watching more innocent people get killed year after year, and that suffering eventually turned it into a vengeful yokai.

Why was the Evil Eye After Jiji?
The Evil Eye has been stuck inside the house for a long time and needs a human host to move freely and get revenge on humans. It needs someone with strong spiritual energy who can handle its power. That is why it waits for the right person.
Jiji has unusually high spiritual power. This is something Seiko noticed when she first met him, and Turbo Granny confirms it later. He is the only one not affected by the Mongolian Death Worm’s suicide waves, which was an early sign that something is special about him.
The Evil Eye has actually been protecting Jiji from the house’s curse, waiting patiently for the moment he would accept it. It saw Jiji as the perfect vessel to leave the house and start its plan.

How Jiji Became the Evil Eye?
The possession is not forced at first. After the Evil Eye shows Jiji its memories, Jiji feels sympathy. He stops seeing it as just a monster. In a weak moment, Jiji says he will play with it, which is all the spirit needed to take over.

Once it enters his body, the Evil Eye fully awakens. It uses Jiji’s body to drive the worm out easily from the lair, and then it quickly makes it clear that it now plans to destroy all humans using Jiji’s body.
The evil eye then attacks Momo and nearly kills her but Okarun arrives just in time to save her.
