Blue Box Season 1 just concluded with Episode 25 airing in Japan, and it will be released globally on March 27. The anime ran for two parts, covering 25 episodes, and ended on a strong note, teasing Taiki and Chinatsu’s shopping day. However, the actual “date” part is saved for Season 2, if we get one.

A lot of fans were wondering how Telecom Animation Film would handle the finale since they were keeping a strict pace of three chapters per episode.

Technically, with this pacing, Blue Box Episode 25 should have ended at Chapter 80. And while they did cover Chapter 80, they did not end exactly there.

Blue Box Chapter 80 is actually a flashback showing what happened after Taiki rejected Hina, including how Ayame comforted her.

Instead of showing the flashback after the date tease, they made it part of the episode and ended the season at the last panel of Chapter 79, where Taiki meets up with Chinatsu for their shopping date.

Blue Box Season 1 Season 1 Covered 8 Arcs

Blue Box Season 1 covered 8 arcs across its two parts. The second half of the season focused a lot on Taiki’s internal struggle after Hina confessed her feelings to him.

Even though he liked Chinatsu from the start, he found himself flustered around Hina too, and she definitely knew how to tease him about it.

Hina always knew Taiki liked Chinatsu, but since he never confessed, she still had hope that she had a chance. But in Blue Box Episode 24 (the second-to-last episode), Taiki finally cleared things up and rejected Hina.

The final episode ended on a really well-done cliffhanger. The love triangle is now settled, and the story is set to move forward with Taiki trying to confess to Chinatsu in Blue Box Season 2.

Is Blue Box Season 2 Confirmed?

As of now, Blue Box Season 2 has not been officially confirmed. Since Blue Box is a Netflix Original, it means Netflix has exclusive streaming rights, but they do not have the final say on whether a second season happens.

The decision ultimately rests with Shueisha (the manga publisher and IP owner) and TMS Entertainment (the studio behind the anime).

If Netflix decides not to renew it, it would not mean the anime is canceled for good. TMS and Shueisha can sell the rights to another platform like Crunchyroll, Disney+, Hulu, or another streaming service.

Low Netflix Viewership Could Be a Problem

One issue is Blue Box’s low viewership on Netflix Japan. Because the anime airs in Japan a week before the global release, many fans watch pirated versions instead of waiting.

When it finally drops worldwide, most fans have already seen it, so global numbers don’t make much impact.

In Japan, Blue Box only made it to Netflix’s Top 10 for two weeks in Japan despite airing non-stop since October. If the numbers are not good enough, Netflix might not renew it.

Anime Japan 2025 Event: A Possible Announcement?

Blue Box has a special event scheduled for March 22 at Anime Japan 2025. The main voice cast will be there, and the event will run from 14:15 to 14:50 JST.

There is no confirmation that Season 2 will be announced, but anime sequels often get revealed at big events like this. So, there is still a small chance we could get an update.

Update: Blue Box Season 2 was not announced at the Anime Japan 2025 event, but they will be releasing new information after the 25th episode airs globally and there is a chance that information is going to be announcement of second season.

The Manga’s Popularity is a Good Sign

Despite struggling on Netflix, Blue Box’s manga is thriving. Since the anime started airing, manga sales have jumped significantly. The official Blue Box Twitter recently announced that total copies in circulation have now hit 7 million.

Plus, some of the most hyped arcs haven’t been adapted yet. If Season 2 happens, it will likely cover:

  • Yumeka’s Return Arc
  • Confession Arc (the most awaited arc of the series!)

Since the anime was planned for 25 episodes and two cours, it is clear the production committee wanted it to be more than just a quick manga promotion. That is why there is still hope for Season 2. Now, we just have to wait and see!

Spread the love
