Ryosuke Kira is one of the first characters introduced in Blue Lock and also the first player to get eliminated. He was once seen as the ideal striker for Japan’s future, but his early exit from the project showed exactly what Ego wanted to change in Japanese football.

Before Blue Lock started, Kira was already famous. He played for Matsukaze High School and was known as the “treasure of Japanese football“.

In the Blue Lock Chapter 1, he plays against Isagi’s team in the Saitama finals. Isagi had a clear shot, but after hearing his teammate scream, he chose to pass instead of taking the shot, his teammate missed the shot. Kira scores on the counter to win the match 2-0, defeating Isagi in this match and taking away his chance to compete in nationals and breaking his dream of participating and winning the World Cup.

After the game, Kira gives an interview and claims it is all because of his teammates, and he is focused on winning nationals.

Right Now I am focused on winning the nationals with this team. I am only here because I have everyone on my team!

Kira enters Blue Lock as a serious talent and also treats Isagi with respect, even acknowledging him as a really smart player.

Kira Gets Eliminated in First Test

In Room Z, Ego introduces the first test. It is a game of tag using a football. The player who holds the ball when time runs out is eliminated.

Kira calls it a joke, as this is not standard football training nor a proper test of skill, but he still plays. Near the end, Bachira steals the ball and passes it to Isagi, who volleys it to Kira at the last second.

At first, Kira could not believe what had just happened since it happened at the last second. He says the game is unfair and meaningless. But Ego replays the final second.

Kira had the ball, and Igarashi was next to him. He had one second to react, but did nothing. Ego explains that this shows Kira does not have the ego to survive in the Blue Lock. And thus, Ryosuke Kira got disqualified in Blue Lock Chapter 2.

What was the point of playing the tag anyway? What does this have to do anything with Soccer? This is not soccer!

Kira Returns in Blue Lock Chapter 311

After more than 300 chapters, Kira returns in Blue Lock Chapter 311. The Japan Football Union chairman, Buratsuta, announces his plan to the 23 players selected via the Neo Egoist League, called Blue Lock Japan Last 2: SIDE-B.

It brings back the eliminated players. These players will compete for the last two open spots on the U-20 team, the third one is already booked for Sae Itoshi.

Since SIDE-B is not part of Ego’s system, Kira is allowed to join. Though it breaks Ego’s rule that eliminated players are banned forever from Blue Lock.

Blue Lock Chapter 311 did not officially confirm that the third one is Kira, but it is pretty much confirmed at this point that the Baratsuta 3 are Sae, Nagi and Kira.

Kira and Nagi: Same Spot, Different Reasons

Nagi was also invited by Buratsuta before, but said no because he respected Ego’s rules. But after Igaguri talks to him in Chapter 310, Nagi decides he still wants to play. In Chapter 311, Nagi is pretty much confirmed to be one of the Buratsuta 3.

Kira and Nagi are both now on the same side, but for different reasons. Nagi still believes in Ego’s system. Kira does not. He wants to prove that Ego’s ideas are wrong.

Baratsuta wants to beat Ego’s project. He gave Nagi three conditions:

  • Use this chance to prove Ego’s vision is flawed
  • Win the SIDE-B selection
  • Give full control of his career to Buratsuta

Kira fits this plan perfectly. He was kicked out by Ego’s system and now has a reason to take revenge.

However, Ego controls the formation of the U-20 World Cup, so he will decide who plays on the field and who does not, so at the end, it entirely depends on Ego if he is going to let Baratsuta 3 shine or not.
