In the final episode of Season 1, Momo, Okarun, and Jiji arrive in Jiji’s hometown. While Momo heads to the hot springs, Okarun and Jiji explore the house and find a strange sealed room covered in talismans.
At the same time, Momo is attacked by a group of creepy men at the spring. She tries to fight back but passes out after being pushed underwater. DanDaDan Season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger.

Who Are the Kito Family?
The Kito Family looks like just another group of old-school landlords living in the village. But their role is a major one. According to the family, they have been protecting the village ritual for generations, a ritual that involves human sacrifice.
They believe a giant underground creature called the “Tsuchinoko” controls the volcano near their village. To keep it calm, they sacrifice people from time to time. This belief has been passed down in the family, and they see it as their duty, not a crime.
They also control the village police. Officer Tsuru is on their side and helps them cover up what they are doing, which makes it nearly impossible for anyone to question or stop them.

The Sacrificial System and Jiji’s House
The house where Jiji’s family lived is built to be used for rituals. There is a secret room in the house, sealed with talismans, and the floor is designed to collapse. Victims are dropped directly into the underground where the creature lives.
Okarun and Jiji discover this room. What is worse is that Jiji’s parents were also sacrificed by the Kito Family. Jiji does not know this at first. But the truth is revealed in the DanDaDan Season 2 Episode 1.

What Is the Creature?
The Kito Family thinks the creature is a Tsuchinoko, but it is not. When the creature finally shows up, Okarun recognizes it as a Mongolian Death Worm. It is way larger than the Mongolian Death Worm, though, way more dangerous, and does not care at all about the people worshipping it.

This cryptid lives underground and has nothing to do with protecting the village. The idea that it controls the volcano is also just a belief. The family built their whole system around this false idea.
In Season 2 Episode 1, the Kito Family tries to offer Momo, Jiji, and Okarun to the worm. But instead of accepting the offering, the creature swallows the family members themselves. It does not care who they are or what they believe in. This makes it clear that their entire tradition was built on a mistake. All the lives they took meant nothing, including Jiji’s parents.
