The new manga Drama Queen on Manga Plus is currently popular for a lot of reasons, and it is not just the plot. The story is a mix of comedy and sci-fi and feels fresh, but it is also the controversy surrounding it that has people talking.
From the first chapter, manga readers have been divided some are hooked by its unique plot, while others are calling it problematic. Either way, it’s hard to ignore.

Why Is Everyone Talking About Drama Queen?
The drama on social media is making it even more popular. People are calling it “racist” because of how it shows alien hate, which has only made more people (like me) want to check it out.
Honestly, I didn’t even know this manga existed until I saw users on X (formerly Twitter) calling it a racist manga.
Drama Queen is currently ranked #4 on Manga Plus. The controversy is what is pulling so many people in.
Even if you don’t agree with the accusations, you kinda want to read it to see what’s really going on even though it’s not extraordinary manga.
Is it actually racist? Or are people just blowing it out of proportion? That debate alone has made this manga impossible to ignore.

The Story and Nomamoto’s Struggles
The story is about how society deals with two totally different species trying to live together. The aliens, who once saved Earth, are now seen as the “new elite,” taking over all the top jobs while humans get pushed aside.
People are thankful for the aliens because they stopped a meteor and gave them advanced technology. However, Nomamoto, the main character, doesn’t feel the same way.
She straight-up hates aliens. Her anger comes from her own struggles she’s cut off from her parents, barely making a living, and her boss is the worst. He pays her less than minimum wage and randomly punches her just because he can.

This 17-year-old girl teams up with a guy named Kitami whose family was killed by aliens, and the two of them literally eat aliens to “fix” their lives.
The whole “killing aliens and eating them” part has everyone shocked, with some finding it disturbing and others calling it genius.
The official synopsis of the manga on Manga Plus is:
Hate brings pain to the world. After saving the earth, aliens have taken up residence with the humans in Japan. Nomamoto, a factory worker with an abusive alien boss, one day meets Kitami, who tells her his own family was killed by aliens. The two quickly forge a friendship, but one day Kitami does the unthinkable…
Okay I thought people were exaggerating so obviously I became part of the problem and clicked on it out of curiosity and Jesus Christ “Drama Queen” is just a straight up Nazi manga. This is so shockingly racist I’m speechless. What is Shueshia thinking? pic.twitter.com/mNcL8PJPkr

Americans complaining about japanese mangas that dont center around a generic good guy protagonist will never not be funny. Drama Queen has so much potential to be a fun story if it doesnt get axed because of its first chapter. pic.twitter.com/bAQ1mB5u05
