What is Grand Blue About?

The story is about a guy named Iori Kitahara, who moves back to the coastal town of Izu to start his college life. He dreams of meeting girls and enjoying his youth, basically what every guy dreams about in college life, but things do not go his way when he returns. Instead of a peaceful start, Iori gets dragged into the alcohol-fueled madness of the university’s diving club, a club filled with nudists.

A special panel for Grand Blue Season 2 was held on March 22 at the AnimeJapan 2025 event at the NBC Universal Entertainment booth. The main cast, including Yuuma Uchida (Iori), Ryohei Kimura (Kohei), Chika Anzai (Chisa), and Yoshino Aoyama (Naomi), made an appearance and shared a few words with fans.

Grand Blue!! is finally back!!!
What a surprise in this day and age when compliance is definitely stricter than it was six years ago!!
The recording site was very heated and we all laughed together while creating the last season.
This time too, we will do our best so that everyone can enjoy the world of Grand Blue!
Let’s all get drunk, strip down, and dive in!! Let’s have
a drink and drink toast!!!

Yuuma Uchida

Even the cast members thought that Grand Blue was a miracle anime, and who would have thought that there would be a second season?!
Come and enjoy their silly yet incredibly fun youth together! Cheers!!!

Sakurako Busujima

A first-year student at Aomi Women’s University. She is often seen hanging out with her close friends Yuki and Natsumi. A certain incident leads to a feud with Iori. She has a high level of pride, but is actually a hard worker.

I’m Yamane Ayaka, who will be playing the role of Sakurako Busujima!
It’s so hard not to laugh every time we record, it’s a really fun set with the same atmosphere as the anime.
Outside the dubbing booth, there’s always a lot of alcohol, snacks, and goods (of course, we all toast after we finish recording), it’s such a lively place…! I’m really impressed.
I’ll do my best to deliver the best Sakurako to all Grand Blue fans! Please look forward to the broadcast! Cheers!!

Ayane Yamane

Shiori Kitahara

Iori’s younger sister. A gentle and quiet third-year junior high school student who looks good in traditional Japanese clothing. She adores Iori as her “older brother” and seems worried about his life at university, but in reality she seems to have an ulterior motive…

I’m Sumire Morohoshi, and I’ll be playing the role of Kitahara Shiori.
It was a lot of fun to jump into this stimulating team full of laughter with Shiori.
I did my best to act like Shiori and keep up with the atmosphere of the show.
I hope everyone will enjoy it. Thank you.

Sumire Morohoshi

Naomi Otoya

A high school student who works in the kitchen at Iori’s part-time job. He is a dazzlingly beautiful boy with a gentle personality. He is the captain of the diving club at his high school. It seems that he has a crush on Iori…

I’m Sumire Morohoshi, and I’ll be playing the role of Kitahara Shiori.

Grand Blue is based on a comedy manga written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka. The manga started back in April 2014 and is still ongoing. It is being published in Kodansha’s good! Afternoon magazine. The first season of the anime adaptation aired in 2018. It was animated by Zero-G and covered the early chapters of the manga. Crunchyroll describes the story as:

After graduating from an all-boys’ high school, Iori Kitahara moves away from home to go to college in a seaside town. He’s eager to start a new chapter in his life–one filled with dreams of reinventing himself, meeting beautiful girls, and reveling in his youth. But when his new abode is his uncle’s dive shop, Iori’s college debut doesn’t turn out as glamorously as he planned! Can Iori keep himself afloat, or will the booze-fueled antics of his university’s diving club wash him away?
