Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie is a direct sequel to season one, picking up the manga adaptation from chapter 39 right after the events of the Katana Man fight and Denji living happily with Power and Aki. The anime came out back in 2022.

The sequel movie was released on September 19, 2025, in Japan and came out on September 26 in Pakistan, where I watched it at Cinepax Cinemas in Jinnah Park in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

The first season of the anime ended at chapter 38 with that small teaser of Reze in the post-credits scene, and this film is entirely focused on her arc. That alone makes it stand out because it is not a spin-off but an actual sequel.

Manga readers know Chainsaw Man is about Denji’s search for something normal in a life that has always been filled with violence and manipulation. The Reze arc doubles down on this idea.

At its heart, this film is about a relationship and how fragile hope can be when your world is built on lies and bloodshed.

The film introduces Reze in a way that feels soft and almost warm. Her presence is calm and disarming, and for the first time, Denji experiences something close to normal happiness.

The movie takes its time to build this bond between Denji and the new character “Reze”.

Instead of rushing into action, it shows quiet moments like a coffee date, a school date, small conversations, and even playful scenes that let you see Denji as a teenager rather than a Devil Hunter working under Makima.

But this is Chainsaw Man, so the tone naturally shifts. Without spoiling details, the movie becomes a lot heavier and shows that Reze is far from a simple character.

She is not written as a typical villain. Her story mirrors Denji’s in many ways, and that is what makes her so compelling.

Both are victims of systems that used them as weapons. Both want something simple, like a normal life, but are trapped by the roles forced on them. This parallel gives the movie an emotional weight that goes beyond action.

The best part of Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie is that it never tries to oversimplify her. Reze feels human, conflicted, and even sympathetic. She is both someone Denji can fall for and someone who can destroy him.

MAPPA’s Animation Quality in Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie

MAPPA had already proved themselves with season one, but with this movie, they have gone further.

The animation is on a completely different scale. Every frame feels polished, and the fight sequences are fluid, sharp, and EXPLOSIVE.

The highlight of the movie is easily the battle choreography. Denji and Reze’s clashes are brutal and fast, but also staged in a way that makes sense spatially.

The use of Reze’s explosive powers is particularly well done. She propels herself through the air with detonations, and every movement feels heavy and precise.

The animators seem to have combined traditional hand-drawn animation with CGI camera work for smoother sequences.

Unlike some productions where CGI stands out, here it blends so well that you almost forget it is there.

Reze is quite similar to Bakugo from My Hero Academia, as they both have similar powers “EXPLOSION“, and they both can use this power to speed themselves up.

At first, Denji was no match for Reze, even the Public Safety members who fought Reze ended up dying as she was too strong for them, even Aki had no chance against her.

And Reze was not alone either, she partnered up with Typhoon Devil, and the animation of the whole Typhoon was next level.

The explosion effects deserve special mention. The force of each blast changes the environment around it, from broken walls to distorted air.

Visual Storytelling and Emotional Tone

Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie also shines in its visual storytelling. Early scenes with Denji and Reze use soft colors and warmer tones, giving a dreamy feeling that reflects Denji’s fragile but temporary happiness.

As the film goes darker, the palette shifts to colder tones, and the framing becomes a lot sharper, giving the whole movie a bit of a horror look.

This change in visuals supports the emotional flow of the story as well, especially when Reze kisses Denji for the first time during the fireworks.

The shot composition is excellent, too. There are moments that look like carefully crafted illustrations, with lighting and perspective guiding your attention to the right detail.

During fights, the camera work is dynamic, moving with characters instead of just cutting between static shots.

Final Words

Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie is one of the best anime films to come out in recent years. MAPPA delivers on every level, from character animation to explosions and cinematography.

If you watched season one of Chainsaw Man, then this movie is essential. It continues the story in a meaningful way and raises the bar for what anime films can be.

It does not try to make things lighter or easier to digest. The emotional pain, the betrayal, the violence, all of it is presented honestly.

The runtime is used well with no filler or wasted scenes, it is the perfect adaption of the entire Bomb Girl Arc from the manga.

Everything serves the story and character development. MAPPA has set a new standard here for how manga adaptations should be handled.
