Subaru Hoshina shows a side of herself that no one expected. She has been against Rintaro and Kaoruko’s relationship since her debut in the anime (Episode 3).
Yet in the latest episode, she accepts Kaoruko’s friendship with Rintaro, apologizes to Kaoruko for going behind her back, and now fully supports her friendship with Rintaro as well.
This did not happen suddenly, and there were alot of reasons that led to Subaru changing her mind about Rintaro, even though he is from Chidori.

The main reason Subaru changed her mind was how Rintaro treated her. After their first awkward meeting in the cafe, he could have ignored her as he said he would and kept seeing Kaoruko in secret.
Instead, in The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 6, he reached out to speak with her again, looking for a way to make her feel comfortable.
By asking for her permission, Rintaro showed that he understood how important she was to Kaoruko.
He treated her as someone whose opinion mattered, not as someone standing in his way.
This confirmed that he respected Kaoruko’s friendships and wanted to be part of her life without causing problems.
Rintaro Understood Subaru Was Protecting Her Best Friend
In their second meeting in the Park, Rintaro told Subaru he was not angry at her. He said he could see she was a kind person who cared deeply about protecting Kaoruko.
This was the first time anyone looked past her hostility and saw the real reason behind her actions.
Her protectiveness came from worry, not dislike. Hearing this from Rintaro broke down the wall between them and made her see he was more understanding than she thought.
Rintaro Made Kaoruko Truly Happy
Subaru’s main goal has always been Kaoruko’s happiness. In the park, Subaru directly asked Kaoruko how she felt about Rintaro. Kaoruko answered without hesitation that she loved him.
Subaru also learned that Rintaro had refused her earlier demand to stop seeing Kaoruko. For Subaru, this showed that his feelings were genuine. Seeing Kaoruko so happy with him and knowing his feelings were real made it impossible for her to keep opposing them.
This episode also focused on Subaru’s view of herself. Kaoruko reminded her of their past and told her she would keep loving her until Subaru could love herself. This emotional support helped Subaru realise she did not have to fight alone.
By the end of the episode, Subaru accepted that Rintaro was not a problem and that trusting Kaoruko’s choice was the right thing to do.
