The Beginning After The End anime finally reached its season finale with Episode 12 titled “The King Departs”. But instead of a proper send-off, it ended up proving why this adaptation has failed from the start. Animation aside, the adaptation choices are what really drag this episode down.

Terrible Animation, No Finale Quality

Just like every episode before, the animation in TBATE Episode 12 felt like a slideshow of panels stitched together. Movements were stiff, spell effects had no weight, and character actions lacked proper transitions. The final episode did not improve anything. No dynamic camera angles, no real impact frames, and fights had almost zero motion. It was missing the intensity or buildup you expect from a finale.

An Adaptation That Keeps Skipping Key Content

This episode covered around 10 chapters from the manhwa, starting from Chapter 48, but most of it was either skipped or changed. Arthur and Jasmine head to Xyrus Adventurer’s Guild, and Arthur hides his identity as “Note.” In the manhwa, Jasmine clearly mentions she is sponsoring Arthur. Here, it is ignored. Even her past with Kaspian, the guild leader, is barely explained.

The exam arc was extremely rushed. Fights like Diane vs Emily and the first participant vs George were cut entirely. Elijah shows up and gets his B-rank without a fight, but the anime does not explain why. The Lucas vs Emily fight was also changed. In the manhwa, George protects Emily from a sneak attack, but in the anime, it is Arthur. On top of that, Lucas gets a D-Rank in the anime instead of a B-Rank in the anime.

Skipping Arthur vs Kaspian Ruined Everything

The fight everyone waited for, Arthur vs Kaspian, did not even happen. In the webtoon, it is one of the best sword fights so far. But the anime skips it and just shows Arthur with a B-Rank after a short flashback. There is no buildup or payoff. It feels like the studio did not have the budget or skill to animate swordplay sequences with proper choreography.

Beast Glades Segment Was Rushed Too

After the guild exam, Jasmine and Arthur take a quest. They fight a wild beast in the forest, which was originally captured but broke free. The whole segment in the anime is short. In the manhwa, it had more scenes, dialogue, and even a duel between Arthur and Jasmine as they train in the glades. But the anime skips most of it.

Jasmine also opens up about her Flamesworth family and how she was ignored for not having fire magic. Arthur responds by saying magic is not everything, a good character moment that still came off flat due to poor execution and timing.

The last few minutes fast-forward two years. People are now talking about the masked guy traveling with the Flamesworth girl. He is known as “The Masked Swordsman” now. It was supposed to feel mysterious, but it ends up feeling random because nothing was built up properly.

TBATE Episode 12 Review

The whole season felt like it was held together with glue and PowerPoint. The animation was consistently weak and lacked basic movement. Backgrounds were still. Frame pacing was broken. But what makes it worse is the skipped or altered content. Key fights and character development moments were thrown out. There was no time for emotional beats to land or action to feel earned.

It’s hard to understand how TBATE got a second season when the production quality is this low and the adaptation choices don’t respect the source material.

Summary

TBATE Episode 12 wraps up the first season, but ends up proving why this anime just does not work. The animation stays weak till the end with no real movement or proper action scenes. A lot of scenes from the manhwa were skipped, including important fights like Arthur vs Kaspian. The exam arc was rushed, characters like Elijah and Lucas were handled poorly, and the Beast Glades quest was cut short. The two-year time skip at the end felt random since nothing was built up. This finale just shows that the anime neither respects the source material nor puts in the effort to improve.
